Sameskolstyrelsen (SamS)

The Sami Education Board is an administrative authority for the Sami schools in Sweden. The administrative activities are regulated in an ordinance for the Sami schools.

By means of submitted comments and propositions the Sami Education Board should also:

• assist in developing school material for teaching about the Sami people in the Swedish compulsory school system.

• support the development and production of teaching material for Sami educational purposes After agreement with local authorities the Sami Education Board is permitted to carry out activities usually undertaken by the local schools:

• in preschools

• in preschool recreational centers for Sami children and youth

Through agreement between the Sami Education Board and the local municipality can integrated Sami education be arranged.

The Sami Education Board sets local guidelines (skolplan) for the Sami schools.

The Sami Education Board consists of five members who are appointed by the Sami Parliament for a specific amount of time.
